Cheminova Inc. has just announced at the annual meeting of the Weed Science Society of America a new herbicide active ingredient pethoxamid that will be instrumental in helping growers manage herbicide-resistant weeds including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and other important broadleaf and annual grass weeds.

Pethoxamid is a novel selective chloroacetamide. Classified as a Group 15 herbicide, pethoxamid works by inhibiting the germination of target weeds. It can be applied preemergence or postemergence. In the U.S. and Canada, major crops slated for its use include canola, corn, cotton, rice, soybean and sunflower.

According to Mike Krull, Cheminova business development director, “Cheminova is developing pethoxamid as a solo product and as an ingredient to be combined with a number of complementary herbicides. We will submit pethoxamid for registration in the U.S. and Canada this year, with expected commercialization in late 2017.”
