A legislative bill in São Paulo intends to ban the use and sale of several types of agrochemicals, is nearing the approval process. According to councilman Toninho Vespoli who authored the bill, the initiative was approved in four different commissions of the city council. The proposal now should be voted at the House floor. In order to justify the project, Vespoli said that the substances are "already banned in some countries such as India, China, Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Kuwait and Sri Lanka.
Among the substances that may be prohibited in São Paulo, these items can be highlighted: abamectin, Acephate, benomyl, carbofuran, cyhexatin, endosulfan, forato, phosmet, glyphosate, heptachlor, lactofen, lindane, methamidophos, monocrotophos, paraquat, methyl parathion, pentachlorophenol, tiram, trichlorfon and other organochlorine products.
