China Pesticide Registration Watch (CPRW) is an online database to help industry people search and track the information of pesticide products approved by the Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) This article summarizes the registration information from this database in 2014, especially highlighting the hot products newly registered in China, including
 
● Top registered herbicides, insecticides and fungicides in 2014 
● Newly registered products in 2014 
● Top registered crops in 2014  
 
Top registered products in 2014 
 
According to China Pesticide Registration Watch, ICAMA has approved 3,403 pesticides in 2014, down by 3.8% compared to 2013. With registration number of 1110,insecticides were still the largest category, accounting for 32.6% of the total registered products, despite a 10.5% drop, in comparison with 2013. Fungicides surged in 2014, accounting for 28.5% of the total number with registration number of 972 (up by 9.3%). Herbicides ranked the third, accounting for 26.7% of the total, with 907 registrations and down by 6.1%, compared to 2013 (Table 1). The total number of registered herbicides in 2014 was 907, among which 156 were technicals, 451 were single formulations and 300 were mixtures. Florasulam was the most registered among technical products, while cyhalofop-butyl was the most registered among single formulations (Table 2). For insecticides, 105 technical products, 703 single formulations and 302 mixtures were approved. Thiamethoxam and pymetrozine ranked the first in technical products and single formulations (Table 3). Regarding fungicides, the total number of registered products was 114 for technicals, 534 for single formulations and 324 for mixtures. Azoxystrobin is the most registered product (Table 4). 
 


Newly registered products in 2014

For newly registered herbicides, the majority were mixtures used for solving weed resistance. Many multinational herbicides were launched into the market right after the registration approvals and have obtained good market performances. Multinationals were the major pesticides registered in 2014. According to the numbers of registrations, the rankings were Syngenta, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, BASF, Arysta LifeScience, Sipcam-Oxon, and DuPont, followed by Japanese companies such as Nissan Chemical, Sumitomo Chemical, Nihon Nohyaku and Meiji Seika Pharma. For Chinese companies, most of the registered products were technicals. It is worth mentioning that Qingdao King Agroot Pesticide has registered a series of mixtures containing glyphosate, glufosinate and florasulam for the first time in China to fight weed resistance. 
 



Top registered crops
 
As per the statistics by crops, over 50% of the products were registered for rice, corn, cucumber, wheat, citrus, apple and cotton, accounting for 22%, 7%, 6%, 6%, 5%, 4% and 3%, respectively, of the total number of registrations (Figure 1). For herbicides, most of them were registered for rice, corn, wheat, citrus and cotton. The number of registrations for these crops reached 530, representing 58% of the total registrations of herbicides. Regarding insecticides, the main crops were rice, citrus, cotton, wheat and corn, taking up 54% of the total registrations of insecticides. For fungicides, most registrations were for cucumber, rice, apple, wheat and citrus. The registration numbers were 552, accounting for 57% of the total fungicides (Figure 2).
