EU amended the conditions of use of herbicide triclopyr

The European Commission has proposed use condition amendment to the herbicide triclopyr considering the exposure risk to birds and mammals. According to the proposal, triclopyr only used as herbicide may be authorised. The maximum total application rate per year is 480g/hectare.
In addition, when granting authorization to triclopyr, the member states shall pay particular attention to the protection of groundwater under vulnerable conditions. Conditions of authorisation shall include risk mitigation measures and monitoring programmes shall be initiated in vulnerable zones. The safety of operators should also be considered and ensure that conditions of use prescribe the application of adequate personal protective equipment. They should pay particular attention to the protection of birds, mammals, aquatic organisms and non-target plants. Conditions of authorisation shall include risk mitigation measures.
This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The member states should amend or withdraw existing authorisations for plant protection products containing triclopyr by 6 months after entry into force. Any grace period granted by Member States shall be as short as possible and shall expire by 18 months after entry into force at the latest.
