Chinese agrochemical company Jiangsu Yangnong has started the trial production of herbicide dicamba, with annual capacity of 5000 tons. The plant, based in Nantong, is expected to initiate its full operation in January 2015. Yangnong dominates dicamba production in China market, given it is the only company which can produce some of the raw materials (e.g. dichlorobenzene) for dicamba production, and holds the best production technologies. The company has also invested heavily to meet the standard of “three wastes” emissions. According to the company, its total dicamba capacity is set at 6500 tons/year, representing 30% of the global manufacturing capacity. Yangnong is anticipated to launch its own dicamba brands, and some of the formulation products are pending for global registrations, the company told AgroPages.
As the controlled shareholder of Yangnong, Sinochem Group recently consolidated all of its agchem businesses into Sinochem International. It might be that Yangnong will be the next one for consolidation.
