Dec. 16, 2014
The phytosanitary emergency state declared in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Minais Gerais was extended for one year more due to the infestation of corn earworm, effective on January 15th 2015 for Mato Grosso, and November 27th 2014 for Minais Gerais. Both states continue to be part of a major plan to suppress the PEST and to adopt several measures coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply.
The measures includes the monitoring, chemically control, traps, baits, and other methods. It also involves the integrated management, determination of planting timing and restriction of subsequent crops. Other measures include the inundative release of biological control agents, use of cultivars that restrict or eliminate pest populations and depopulation the host by leaving the fallow land without host.
