Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply has instituted new rules for seed packages in the country. According to the Normative Instruction no. 40, published at the Union's Official Gazette, the seed package seals must contain the registration number of the National Registration of Seeds and Seedlings of the farmer or packer, when the product is aimed for trading.
According to the text, the bulk seed could only be sold directly to the final user. The Annex to the Normative Instruction institutes a set of rules such as the use of packages of differentiated size, polypropylene-based material or a proven durability material. The packaging must provide a minimum content of 250 kilograms net weight, and have its trade restricted between the seed producer and the final consumer.
