India’s rabi crop planting area down to 36.09 mn ha

India has recorded a drop in rabi area coverage at 36.09 million hectares as of November 28, as per rabi crops data released by directorate of economics and statistics, Indian agriculture ministry.
Till the same period last year, rabi crop area coverage was at 37.89 million hectares, the data adds.
The area under sowing of gram also recorded a drop at 6.38 million hectare this year while the last year’s figure was 7.57 million hectare.
Area coverage under total pulses was recorded at 9.59 million hectare while the last year’s sowing area coverage was 10.70 million hectares.
Similarly, sowing area under total oilseeds was at 6.50 million hectare, as compared to 7.02 million hectare recorded in last year.
However, wheat sowing area has recorded an improvement with 16.15 million hectare, against 15.91 million hectares recorded during the same period last year, the data adds.
