W.Atlee Burpee Company has picked up an undisclosed stake in Indus Seeds, a Bangalore based producer and exporter of seeds. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.
Incorporated in 2003, Indus Seeds produces and exports seeds of Hybrid Tomato, and other vegetables, including Chilli, Bittergourd, Bhindi, Bottlegourd among others, to Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan.
It has an in-house production capacity of about 5 acres under green houses and 20 acres under open field conditions with breeding research stations located in Bangalore, Nelamangala and Mysore in Southern India.
Based out of US, W. Atlee Burpee & Co, a seed company founded by Washington Atlee Burpee in 1876, sells seeds and garden accessories to home gardeners. Burpee cultivates and distributes fruit, flower, herb, and vegetable seeds and plants through retail partners, catalogs and online through its website and claims to be shipping over 100 million packets annually.
Recently in this space, Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company had picked up a 60% stake in Zimbabwe-based seed firm, Quton Seed Company, for an undisclosed sum.
