Keygene Inc.has recently announced the signing of a new commercial lease on facilities that will increase its operational capacity in the United States. The 5-year renewable lease is for existing facilities on the campus of the University of Maryland’s Institute for Biotechnology and Biomedical Research (IBBR). This additional capacity is being added to accommodate a growing number of staff.
The expansion will allow growth of the international business and research activities of KeyGene, including increased business development in North and South America and growth of KeyGene’s Applied Systems Biology research group that is engaged in candidate gene discovery. The increased lab space will enable the company to add additional research competencies in the areas of advanced phenotyping, cell biology and synthetic biology. The research teams in the new Rockville facility will focus on the key value-driving crops of the Americas such as soybean, maize and sugarcane.
