In Argentina, a new pesticide product traceability system is already in effect. The guidelines were published at the Official Gazette of that country in August because of an initiative started by the National Services of Agricultural Health (called Senasa).

According to regulators, the goal of this normative is to register the moves of the commercial chain players, from the imports active ingredients until the final user, and "identify laboratories and the distribution chain".

According to the article 5 of the normative, The “system players” includes importers, exporters, salespersons, fractionators, wholesale distributors, and retailers.

Importers and veterinary products makers may apply in the traceability system within 180 days counting from the day the resolution was under effect. The other participants have 360 days.

Active ingredients importers and makers have to provide the following data: Standard GS1, lot number, and expiration date. In the case of formulated products, importers and makers must inform the same data, as well as the serial number.

"We will give support those companies affected by the resolution, many of which are already members and have a GLN number that allows them to identify and encode products globally. The official Traceability System includes a training period, user manuals and other support information for those who need, "said Roxana Saravia, leader of the GS1 Traceability in Argentina.
