Bayer CropScience has launched Merlín Total herbicide (isoxaflutole and indaziflam) for the improvement of sugarcane productivity in Guatemala. This crop is threatened mostly by grasses and broad-leaved herbs in the Central America. Merlín Total is compatible with other pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides such as "Basta" and "Finale".
"Merlín Total is an innovative pre-emergent herbicide that offers flexible and efficient management for weeds. It offers a long residual up to 120 days, which allows a reduction of spraying. With this, the profitability, efficiency and logistics management is improved. The crop productivity increases from 15% to 20%," explained by Luis Fernando Orellana, regional manager of Bayer.
Guatemala grows over 260 thousand hectares of sugarcane, which represents 25% of its agricultural production and nearly 14% of the country's exports, according to official data.
"It will be the first country in Central America to have this product", noted by Armando Sandoval, manager of Bayer CropScience at Guatemala.
