Colombia sets emergency measures against guava pestqrcode

The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) declared state of phytosanitary emergency on the guava crops in the states of Atlantico and Bolívar due to the presence of guava cottony scale (Capulinia spp).
 
"ICA calls producers not to use materials that could spread the pest, as well as fruits in the region that may contain the pest", said the Institute's general manger, who reiterated "the importance to inform immediately the presence of the pest on guava, which is identified in the form of white smear in the stems and leaves of the plant".
 
During the emergency, which will be valid until August 22 of 2015, guava growers should follow this phytosanitary recommendations: supervise the crops, in order to detect the presence of the pest; foliar insecticide spraying; phytosanitary pruning and cut the dead trees for later insecticides spray.
