Syngenta has announced that Laura Wood Peterson joins Syngenta as manager of federal government relations, based in Washington, D.C. In this role, Peterson will support the company’s strategic federal government relations including outreach and advocacy.
Peterson comes to Syngenta with a solid combination of experience and relationships in both the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government, and extensive experience in agribusiness. She is well prepared to help drive Syngenta’s federal government relations strategy and create opportunities to both maintain and expand the company’s license to operate.
“Laura’s leadership and experience in both Washington, D.C. and agriculture will enhance our government relations program,” said Rex Martin, head, external relations, Syngenta Corporation, “Laura has the solid credentials and experience to help advance policy that will enable farmers to grow more from less.”
Peterson’s career focus has been on government relations and agriculture, having grown up on a family farm in Kansas. Prior to joining Syngenta, Peterson was director of government affairs at the National Association of Conservation Districts and worked at The Russell Group (formerly Russell & Barron).
With deep roots in agriculture, she values the efficient use of natural resources and technology to advance sustainable food, fuel and fiber security across the globe. This passion will guide Peterson as she advocates for policy that supports The Good Growth Plan, which reflects Syngenta’s belief that agricultural productivity must increase in order to feed a global population that is increasing by 200,000 people every day.
Peterson completed her bachelor of science degree at Kansas State University and juris doctor degree at George Washington University Law School. She is a member of the Kansas Bar and teaches Introduction to American Politics and Government as an adjunct faculty member at George Washington University.
