Argentina declared last June, imports of Monoammonium phosphate (MAP) of 48.491 tons at an average price of $453.7 per ton, versus 86.605 tons for $469.1 per ton in May this year. While in June 2013, 74.677 tons of MAP entered into the country at an average price of $490.9 per ton

As for phosphate diammonium (DAP), imports in June 2013 were 40.416 tons at an average price of $453.2 per ton, versus 49.440 tons at $457.7 per ton in May this year. While in June 2013, those numbers were 6.504 tons at an average price of $473.1 per ton.

According to a recent market research carried out by the Potash Corp, global phosphate producer costs are generally determined by supply costs of phosphate rock/phosphoric acid, sulfur/sulfuric acid and ammonia.

The cost of phosphate rock/phosphoric acid typically has the greatest impact on a supplier’s cost competitiveness. Large producers at the low end of the cost curve benefit from an integrated rock supply and in some cases lower-cost of sulfur and ammonia

The phosphate market shifted in late 2013 and early 2014 to a more balanced state with improved global import demand and reduced output and shipping delays in the US. Markets softened somewhat in the second quarter as buying in the spring season eased.
