Dow AgroSciences has received US federal registration of XXpire WG insecticide, an ornamental product that combines two new active ingredients, spinetoram and Isoclast Active, a brand-new class of insecticide chemistry. Effective on 39 pests, including seven of the top 10 most troublesome ornamental insects, XXpire WG controls both chewing and sap-feeding species.
XXpire WG offers two modes of action and provides excellent knockdown of pests. Isoclast is a recently registered active ingredient and the sole member of the sulfoximine class of insect control agents. Spinetoram is a spinosyn insecticide that offers improved insecticidal activity and longer residual control.
Available for use in nurseries, greenhouses and commercial landscapes, XXpire WG controls whiteflies, aphids, mealybugs, lepidopterans, lacebugs, certain scales and thrips, and suppresses spider mites. It offers excellent systemic activity to control insects hidden in the plant canopy.
Tested on more than 300 ornamental and crop species, XXpire WG is gentle on plants and soft on beneficials. It also is an excellent partner in a resistance management program. Because the active ingredients each belong to a unique Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) group, XXpire WG insecticide can be rotated with other commonly used insecticides in different IRAC groups. Rotation of compounds between subgroups is recommended only if no other options are available between groups.
State registrations for XXpire WG are pending. The product will be available in the marketplace this fall.
