Monsanto announces $4.5 billion debt issue

Monsanto Company (NYSE:MON) recently announced that it intends to begin a public offering of senior notes in the near term, subject to market and business conditions and other prevailing factors.

The Company indicated that it currently intends to use the net proceeds from the debt offering to repurchase its common shares pursuant to its existing and recently announced share repurchase programs, which may include accelerated share repurchase programs, open market transactions, or other purchase techniques, and to the extent there are any remaining proceeds for other general corporate purposes.
