The European Union recently published the directive amending honey legislation if it contains GM pollen. In this directive, it mentioned that pollen, being a natural constituent particular to honey, should not be considered to be an ingredient of honey. This amendment also notes that GM pollen has to be labeled if it makes up more than 0.9% of the honey, according to the existing GM legislation law.
The EU member states have to apply new rules by June 24th 2015. Products which are placed on the market or labeled before that date, may continue to be marketed until the exhaustion of stocks.
