Innovative plant research and breeding are vital prerequisites for a sustainable increase in global agriculture productivity. KWS therefore expands its research capacities in Germany while also building up a new research facility in the USA.
In the current fiscal year 2013/2014, KWS spends about EUR 160 million for research and breeding in order to meet the globally increasing requirements of a sustainable agriculture. In addition, about EUR 9 million will be spent until the next business year for a new building at the company headquarters in Einbeck (Germany), plus about EUR 5 million for a new research facility in the Bio-Research & Development Growth Park (BRDG Park) in St. Louis (USA).
“With our research centers in Germany and in the US, we will be able to develop products for the global markets at two of the world’s prime locations for plant research. These two research facilities will complement each other’s work in an ideal way,” explains Léon Broers, KWS Member of the Executive Board responsible for research.
Located in the BRDG Park, in the middle of a cluster of universities, institutes and start-ups, the planned new facility is scheduled to strengthen the position of KWS in global plant research, offering proximity to one of the key markets. This will be supported by the existing facilities in the BRDG Park as well as by an excellent infrastructure and a top-quality science platform.
