The EPA has issued Section 3 registration for Syngenta Crop Protection’s Flexstar GT herbicide, a premix of fomesafen and glyphosate, for use on soybeans.

The company says Flexstar GT contains Isolink II technology, an adjuvant system designed to optimize both the contact activity of fomesafen and the systemic activity of glyphosate while reducing crop injury.

“Weed resistance in the United States is a real and growing problem,” says Rex Wichert, herbicide brand manager with Syngenta Crop Protection. “With waterhemp and pigweed species already resistant to glyphosate, sustaining the viability of glyphosate-tolerant technology becomes critical, and prevention is vital to that effort.”

According to the company, Flexstar GT controls the same annual weeds as glyphosate; several glyphosate- and ALS-resistant broadleaf weeds such as Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and ragweed; and those weeds difficult to control with glyphosate alone, such as morningglory and velvetleaf. Syngenta claims the herbicide also offers preemergence activity on more than 25 broadleaf weeds, including Palmer amaranth, pigweed, ragweed and yellow nutsedge.
