FMC Agricultural Solutions launched a technology aimed exclusively to banana crops, which is called Biflex Treebags. It is a bag, treated with bifenthrin, where the bunch of bananas is wrapped to protect it from pests, diseases and burns.
The product, originally developed by the company Chemplast, owned by McNeel International, improves considerably the quantity and the quality of bananas to export. Biflex is a recognized insecticide within the industry because of its wide control spectrum. It is classified as environmentally sustainable, and manufactured with FMC's bifenthrin.
The prodcut has no volatility, with mode of action by contact and regulator of the sodium channel. Due to these characteristics, it reduces the risks of contamination through inhalation of workers who come into contact with the product, and reduces the risk of absorption through the skin through perspiration.
Biflex ® Treebags have been used on banana plants all over the world, under several types of environmental and climate conditions, resulting in the control of pests of the following insects: Banana Aphids (Pentalonia nigronervosa, Aphis gossypii); Red Rust Thrips (Chaetanaphothrips orchidii, C. Signipennis); Flower Thrips (Frankliniella parvula); Pink scavenger (Anatrachyntis rileyi) Warms (Hypercompe icasia, Platynota rostrana) Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens); Conga bee (Trigona corvina); Costurera bee (Orasema costaricensis); and Crazy Ants (Paratreachina longicornis).
