After announcing its plan to build first glyphosate factory in Russia last month, Orgsyntes, a division of Renova group, recently disclosed that an experts’ working group of the company had visited a big chemical company in China to get to know the production technology of glyphosate.
According to the company, earlier Orgsyntes once conducted negotiations with the world's largest companies in the U.S. and the EU.
Russia now completely relies on import of herbicides for use in agriculture market due to lack of production in the CIS region. Planned production of glyphosate by Khimprom OAO has a capacity of 30,000 tons per year. The investment in this project will be over $ 150 million. Khimprom OAO is a Russia-based company active in the chemical industry. Orgsyntes is the company’s largest shareholder with a stake of 96.2%.
Khimprom specializes in the production of organic and inorganic products, like organophosphorous, the major raw material for producing glyphosate. The company believes that a very important competitive advantage of producing this herbicide is the economic impact of integration the company’s existing production of phosphorus trichloride with new production of hydrogen peroxide, whose production will begin in June 2014. These two products are also important chemical intermediates in the production of glyphosate. According to the company, investment in new production of hydrogen peroxide has been amounted to more than $87 million.
