The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed to approve the registration for Metrafenone Technical Fungicide and Vivando SC Fungicide (metrafenone), to control powdery mildew on grapes. Metrafenone is a benzophenone fungicide with protectant and curative properties for the control of powdery mildew (
Uncinula necator) on grapes.
Meanwhile, the agency is granting the registration for the technical p-menthane-3,8-diol and related oil of lemon eucalyptus compounds (sold under the trade name Citriodiol), and the personal insect repellents Citrepel Insect Repellent 30 and Natrapel Insect Repellent, containing the technical grade active ingredient p-menthane-3,8-diol and related oil of lemon eucalyptus compounds, for use to repel mosquitoes.
The PMRA has opened the public comments until July 8, 2014.
On 15 May 2014, the agency announced the proposal to grant full registration for the sale and use of Technical Insecticide (Novaluron) and its end-use products, Mosquiron 0.12CRD, Mosquiron 0.12CRD-D, Mosquiron 0.12P, and Mosquiron 0.12P-D, containing the technical grade active ingredient novaluron, to control mosquito larvae (excluding
Mansonia spp. And
Coquilletidia spp.). Novaluron is an insect growth regulator for control of mosquito larvae (excluding
Mansonia spp. and
Coquilletidia spp.) in standing bodies of water. It inhibits chitin synthesis, affecting moulting of larvae, but does not affect the adult stage after development is completed. Novaluron is also registered to control various pests in many agricultural crops.
Furthermore, the agency has proposed to grant full registration for the sale and use of U C Garlic Juice (technical grade active ingredient) and Mosquito Barrier (end-use product), containing the technical grade active ingredient garlic juice, to repel mosquitoes in outdoor environments. Garlic juice is an extract of garlic (
Allium sativum var.
sativum). Various diallyl sulfide compounds, which are among the main components of garlic juice, are repellent to mosquitoes.
The public comments will be closed on July 14, 2014.
