Participants of 2nd Global Regulatory Conference |
Extensive trial and regulatory research has helped Rotam’s significant growth over the past few years. In an effort to nurture that progression, the organisation recently hosted its second Global Regulatory Conference, focusing on the subject of sustained growth and development.
Dr. Yifan Wu, Senior Vice President of Technical Development, opened the conference and highlighted the substantial regulatory developments that have delivered a significant number of registrations across the world.
“Thanks to the dedication of our global regulatory division, Rotam has been able to introduce significant, break-through products into a wide range of market sectors,” Dr. Wu remarked.
The conference took place at the organisation’s primary R&D hub in Kunshan near Shanghai and occurred exactly three years after the first conference; during this time, the number of regulatory managers in Rotam has grown by well over 30%.
This year, around 40 delegates attended from around the world, as well as from Kunshan’s R&D centre. “The purpose of the conference was to effectively communicate the ever changing landscape of regulatory matters,” states Garth Drury, Rotam’s Head of Regulatory and Government Affairs.
Garth chaired the conference and explains that now, with over 50 regulatory managers based in all corners of the globe, there was an important need to bring them all together. “We were keen to amass all of our regulatory managers, and essentially form a discussion surrounding their individual regulatory needs and concerns.”
Subjects covered in the conference, ranged from business perspectives through to latest technical developments and innovation in Rotam. This theoretical discussion was followed by external visits to Rotam’s own laboratories (including its GLP facilities) and an experimental field station.
Overall feed-back from delegates was very positive.

Dr. Helmuth Kraus International Manager, R&D |
Dr. Helmuth Kraus, International Manager, R&D, from Bogotá, Colombia notes that it’s often easy to forget that colleagues around the world face similar challenges. “We all have a multitude of region specific situations that occupy our day to day working lives. Occasions like this; where we meet as a group, help remind us that although there are differences within our respective regions, we do share many similarities and much can be learnt from our global counterparts.”

Dr. Aurore Pichon
Regulatory Project Manager North Europe |
Dr. Aurore Pichon, Regulatory Project Manager North Europe, from Lyon, France reflected on the group’s visit to Rotam’s field station. “This state of the art field station has been designed to test plant nutrition and plant protection products, as well as a tank mix performance and spray efficiency,” she explains. “It was fascinating to see Rotam products (including innovative plant nutrients) working within a field environment in China, comparable to that seen in hi tech, intensive fruit and vegetable production systems in Europe and the USA.”
In his closing talk in the evening of the 3rd day of the conference, Mr. CY Lo, a member of Rotam Board of Directors, expressed that given the positive outcomes of this conference, it is his wish to see another similar gathering becoming a regular feature.
“Product registration is a key element of Rotam’s success, the sustainable growth and development of our company relies on our regulatory divisions and the work they deliver; we appreciate the huge commercial benefit their efforts contribute towards.”
