Syngenta announced recently that Terry Stone has been appointed industry relations lead for vegetable and specialty crops. Stone will be based in Greensboro, N.C. and will continue his work with key segments of the agriculture value chain and serve as an important resource on sustainability topics within the company.
A key focus will be ensuring The Good Growth Plan from Syngenta is embedded into the vegetables and specialty crops businesses in North America. The Good Growth Plan comprises six company commitments to address the global food security challenge through boosting resource efficiency, rejuvenating ecosystems and strengthening rural communities.
“Within Syngenta, Terry has been successful in creating awareness and facilitating adoption of key sustainability initiatives,” said Rex Martin, head, external relations, Syngenta corporate affairs in North America. “His additional strengths in multi-stakeholder collaborations, regulatory affairs and plant biotechnology are strong assets for our industry relations team.”
Stone has valuable and diverse experience in the development and commercialization of agricultural products and using crop technologies to sustainably enhance agricultural production. He joined Syngenta in 2005 as senior regulatory affairs manager, and four years later, was named sustainability value chain manager. In 2011, Stone became sustainability value chain lead in North America. Last year, he moved into his current position as industry relations lead for water optimization and biofuels.
After receiving his undergraduate degree, Stone worked at Monsanto as a senior research biologist and progressed through positions of increasing responsibility in marketing and regulatory affairs. In 2003, he joined The Scotts Company as director of biotechnology regulatory affairs.
Stone holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, a master’s degree in Entomology from Mississippi State University and a master’s in international business from St. Louis University.
