ChemChina subsidiary Adama Agricultural Solutions' (formerly Makhteshim-Agan Industries) New Zealand subsidiary, Agronica (Nelson), has applied to the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority(EPA) to import insecticide Grizly Max with the active ingredients imidacloprid, novaluron and bifenthrin to control thrips in onions and the Tomato Potato Psyllid and aphids in potatoes.

Agronica NZ states :”Grizly Max, has proven to be highly effective against target pests. It also says the combined formulation will result in a reduction in the number of spray applications required during a growing season,  reducing the potential for off-target mortality of beneficial pollinators.”
Agronica NZ has identified that Grizly Max may pose risks to bees, and for that reason is not intended to be sprayed on flowering plants. It will also carry label instructions to mitigate risks to bees.

The EPA is seeking submissions to inform its risk assessment before making a recommendation to an independent decision-making committee on whether to approve or decline the application. The submissions will be closed on 5 June 2014.
