Australia suspends certain 2,4-D registrations

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APMVA) has suspended certain registrations of 2,4-D-2-ethylhexyl ester, 2,4-D, and 2,4-D ethyl hexyl ester. The suspension of the affected 2,4-D active constituent are now in place until 10 October 2014 or until the APVMA revokes the suspensions.

On 23 September 2013, the APVMA issued a notice, requiring all 2,4-D active constituent approval holders to conduct, or cause to be conducted, trials or laboratory experiments in relation to the active constituent and the potential levels of dioxins contained in that active constituent. The notice required these results to be provided to the APVMA by 29 November 2013. But the APVMA did not receive the required data for those active constituents listed in Table 1.

On 10 January 2014, the APVMA notified the relevant approval holders of the proposal to suspend the approvals listed in Table 1, for failure to provide the necessary information.
