Sakata Seed America Inc. and Alf Christianson Seed Co. are merging under the Sakata name.
 
Dave Armstrong, president and chief executive officer of Morgan Hill, Calif.-based Sakata Seed America and Burlington, Wash.-based Alf Christianson Seed Co., will continue in his role with the merged entity, according to a news release.
 
The company headquarters are in Morgan Hill. Pacific Northwest operations will continue.
 
The Japanese parent company, Sakata Seed Corp., had acquired Alf Christianson in 2002 and operated it as a subsidiary of Sakata America Holding Co.
 
Sakata Seed America serves as the headquarters for the North and Central American operations for Sakata Seed Corp.
 
Alf Christianson, a wholesale seed company, is known for breeding beet, spinach and chard varieties, now marketed under the Chriseed brand.
