To offer good agronomic practices and the correct management of weeds to farmers, Monsanto launched Roundup Ready Plus system, which will be one of the highlights of the company during “Tecnoshow Me “which takes place between 07 and 11 April in Rio Verde (State of Goiás), Brazil.

It is a system of weeds management which combines the use of herbicides, associated to good agricultural practices, which allow the farmer to have better control of invasive plants.
Through the program “Accompanied Farmers”, Monsanto accompanies and supports the producers from around the country. Technical visits are carried out during the crop cycle to identify the production system used and recommendations are made for the appropriate management of weed suitable for the conditions of the area through the adoption of the best practices related to the use of herbicides, taking into consideration the region of the producer, the agronomic system used and the target weed, searching for the best cost-benefit.

During “Tecnoshow Me”, applications developed by Monsanto will make simulations of cost and risk analysis for producers, with results that indicate the importance of the recommendation technically correct. The Roundup Ready Plus system analyses the summer and  winter crops or the covers used in the rotation system, the knowledge of the cycle and biology of the target weeds, available technologies, cultural practices and herbicides more sustainable, acting preventively and/or corrective control of resistant populations.

"The management of weeds needs to be looked at broadly, taking into account the crops and all that covers the agricultural system of the producer. The goal of the system RRPlus is to offer the best agronomic or technique recommendation, whilst always seeking the longevity of the technology of our seeds and all the benefits that they offer, "says Georgia Palermo, Manager of Strategy of Crop Protection at Monsanto.

Actions that contribute to reducing the risk of selected resistant populations.Weed management in a property must be long-term, through an integrated system of production involving crop methods, chemical and non-chemical. Therefore, it is necessary to work with good agricultural practices, such as crop rotation and of active principles, aiming to prevent the selection of resistant populations.

The main recommendations are:
- Avoid leaving fallow lands: Between 70% and 80% of the seeds of weeds that infest the next summer crop are produced during the autumn harvest stop.
- Deploy winter crops which use herbicides with different modes of action.
- Deploy cover crops in order to produce mulch. Soil with good vegetation cover leaves no room for the weeds.
- If the area becomes fallow, perform post-harvest management, preventing the production of weed in the area.
- Rotate crops and herbicides, especially in areas where there is risk of selection or there is already the presence of a resistant biotype.
- Always use the recommended dose on the herbicides label.
- For RR crops, perform drying properly, the perform pre-planting and start the crop from scratch.
- Follow the recommendations of the products leaflets and good farming practices (GFP).

Indications for areas with infestations of herbicide-resistant biotypes. Through the Roundup Ready Plus system, Monsanto recommends that producers:
- Use herbicides properly
- Work with the doses recommended on package leaflet;
- Avoid continuous use of products with the same mechanism of action;
- Rotation of herbicides with different mechanisms of action;
- Use of crop rotation

Weed monitoring

- Monitoring after application of herbicides
- Monitor patches of weeds with different standards after the applications;
- Eliminate initial outbreaks of resistance, avoiding seed production;
- Using GFP, chemical and non-chemical with the objective of increasing the competitive capacity of culture, by means of a quick establishment and development

Use equipment and clean machinery, perform the control of borders and use certified seeds, preventing the spread of weeds.
