The Brazilian Strategic Committee of Soybean (CESB) has just released the second Protocol of its research network. This year, the entity, in conjunction with various institutions, will investigate the efficiency of the joint use of the macronutrients N (nitrogen), P (phosphorus), K (potassium) and S (sulfur) on increasing the productivity of soybean in different regions of Brazil, considering different managements and the increased application of the components in the cultivation of grain.

‘In the latest edition of the “National Challenge of Maximum Productivity of Soybean”, the three areas that achieved highest rates of production were approximately 124% above the national average of 48.9 bags per hectare. Consequently, this result made us rethink traditional technologies recommended by the agribusiness entities’, explains Orlando Martins, President of CESB. 'From that moment on, we decided to advance and explore in depth, innovative methods in planting of soy related to use of these macronutrients N, P, K and S '.

The main objective of the Committee with this initiative is to evaluate, if under conditions of high technology, the soybeans crop is having some limitations of macronutrients, and also to check the production of technical and economical benefits from additional fertilization performed in legumes at different times and sources. If the results are positive for productivity, the Committee forwards the results to the research institutions concerned for the required confirmation and improvement of the technology as well as create studies of the most appropriate sources, dosages, stages and methods of application of each nutrient.

The second Protocol of the Research Network is now available to all institutions that have an interest in assisting in the development of this research. To participate and receive the instructions, simply send an email to the CESB at cesb@cesbrasil.org.br. Research Network CESB aims to stimulate research in the creation of new technologies, validation and refinement of practices used by soy producers, aim to maximize the productivity of legumes, with economy and sustainability.

Currently, the CESB is represented by 17 members and eight sponsoring entities: Syngenta, BASF, Arysta, TMG, Monsanto Seeds Adriana, Agrichem and Phytus Institute.
