The new Agriculture Minister of Brazil, Naidu Geller, recently said the value that the agriculture of the country defense will be one of his priorities.
Another priority of the new Minister will be to speed up the approval of pesticides, which have picked up speed this year. For this aim, Geller must create a technical team to work in conjunction with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Renewable Resources (Ibama) and with the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance (Anvisa). “We can't wait years for a product to be approved. It does not mean that we are going to avoid the process, but we will work to make it easy” he said.
With active participation in the discussions of the Crop Plan 2014/15, Geller said the Ministry is analyzing all the proposals, but that special attention will be given to innovation. “The package will be announced by the end of April. Obviously we will have more resources in relation to the Rs. 136 billion of the current crop, but we want to give more money for innovation, mainly linked to the increase of productivity”. The InovaAgro program, loaned Rs. 3.2 million in the first seven months of the current season (2013/14).
