Paraguay agchem import sales decreased 28% in 2013

Paraguay agrochemicals imports sales recorded a decrease of 28% reaching more than $ 576 million in 2013 compared to $ 810 million of 2012, according to the statistics of the National Service of Quality and Plant health and Seeds (Senave). Agrochemicals imports volume decreased by 20% to 240,000 tons compared to 300,000 tons of 2012.

According to sources from SENAVE, the reduction of products revenues responds directly to a hard drought occurred in 2012 and large volumes of products could not be sold, At the same time, the price of the dollar was low during that year which increased income products.

Paraguay agrochemicals and fertilizers business achieved an increase of 13% reaching $3,043 million in 2013.

It should be noted that the entry of fertilizers and plant protection products has three legal ways, which are through the processing industries, the formulator and multinational companies which import the product totally prepared.

There are also reports of triangulation and smuggling of these products that move $ 10 million.
