The European Commission has recently announced to approve three new active ingredients under the EU plant protection regulation (1107/2009).They are: Sumitomo Chemical Agro Europe’s insecticide, pyridalyl; Isagro’s fungicide,valifenalate, and Bayer CropScience 's herbicide, thiencarbazone. They will be formally included in Annex I on July 1, 2014 and will expire on June 30, 2024.
For the pyridalyl and valifenalate,the Commission requires that member states shall pay particular attention to the risk to aquatic organisms. For the thiencarbazone, member states should pay particular attention to the risk to aquatic organisms and groundwater if the substance is applied under vulnerable geographical or climatic conditions.
Sumitomo Chemical submitted its application for pyridalyl in 2006 to the Austria as rapporteur member state. Isagro and Bayer applied for valifenalate in 2005 and thiencarbazone in 2007 to Hungary and UK, respectively.
