Monsanto Hawaii is shutting down its operation on Kauai, putting 30 people out of work.
Monsantos farm outside Hanapepe focused primarily on producing seed corn and that work will be transferred to Monsanto operations on Oahu and Maui.
The 30 Kauai workers will receive severance packages when their work ends sometime in May, the company announced Friday.
The company said the affected employees were also eligible to apply for other positions with Monsanto Hawaii.
A Monsanto spokesman said there are discussions that could possibly result in another Monsanto division taking over the 150 acres in Hanapepe.
