Corn and soybean growers in the Midwest face varying challenges every year, depending on weather, pests and diseases. Bayer CropScience is commited to investing in research and development to help those growers cultivate healthy crops that result in the highest yields possible. In the past few years, Bayer CropScience has continued to bring innovations in seeds and traits, seed treatments and equipment to the industry – focusing on technologies to improve growers’ experiences, the environment, plant health and yield. Bayer will show many of these new assets first-hand at American Seed Trade Association(ASTA).
The Bayer CropScience booth highlights include:
• A new seed treatment application technology, Bayer Fluency Agent, which is an alternative to standard talc and graphite lubricants. It is made of a polyethylene wax substrate and has been shown to significantly decrease dust and emissions during laboratory testing, including 90 percent reduction in total dust versus talc and 60 percent reduction in total dust versus graphite.
• A glimpse at breakthrough technology scheduled to be available for the 2015 growing season is a seed treatment that will be used to combat soybean Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and give growers a much-needed solution to this problem. This new product will help to control the Fusarium fungus that causes SDS. Over the past three years, research trials in fields infested with SDS revealed an average 3-5 bu/acre yield benefit with the new SDS treatments compared to control treatments.
• An overview of the 10 Bayer SeedGrowth Centers which are used for innovation and demonstrations, bringing customers together to see new products and equipment. They provide services, including customized internal and external trainings, testing, advice and technical support, directly to seed treaters. They allow customers to learn first-hand about using SeedGrowth products, includingPoncho®/VOTiVO®, the first seed treatment to combine an insecticide with a biological mode of action against nematodes for corn and soybeans, and receive interactive training on equipment, such as the first fully-automated seed treatment system On Demand™, which brings commercial treating downstream.
• Weeds have no part in a high-yield story, but the LibertyLink® trait with Liberty® herbicide does. The LibertyLink system provides excellent weed control and preserves the yield of high-performing varieties. Crops with the LibertyLink trait allow growers to spray powerful Liberty herbicide in-crop for nonselective postemergence control of even the toughest weeds. The LibertyLink trait is widely available in soybeans, cotton, canola and corn. Take control of you fields with Liberty herbicide combined with LibertyLink seeds.
As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation, Bayer CropScience places a heavy focus on the creation and cultivation of a strong pipeline of products, equipment, coatings and services, as well as its continued investment in stewardship programs.
