In line with its commitment to barley and wheat health, Syngenta organized -for the third consecutive year- its Reflect Tours, a series of tours through different stations installed in fields of producers and advisors located in Azul, Pergamino, Chivilcoy, Lobos, Balcarce, Tandil as well as in the INTA facilities of Pergamino and Balcarce, in the province of Buenos Aires. These tours served to show results obtained using Reflect Xtra fungicide.
As that of last year, the current campaign is characterized by a high level of infections of blotches. Barley, for instance, was attacked by Bipolaris, net blotches, scald and some rust. By the end of the season, barley was also affected by Ramularia.
In this context, specialists recommended early applications since they are more effective than late applications. The critical period for barley takes place before the critical period of wheat yield, which calls for an earlier control.
Wheat, in turn, was characterized this year by yellow blotch attacks and, to a lesser extent, by rust. The disease, which had caused significant yield losses in previous years, was fully controlled by using the fungicide. Particularly in barley, the decline in health standards affects the grain caliber. A healthy foliar area ensures better quality and a greater grain caliber.
