Chinese agrochemical company Anhui Kelihua Chemical has received the registration approval for its herbicide 96% oxadiargyl technical from Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA). As per Chinese Pesticide Registration Watch, Anhui Kelihua Chemical is the first Chinese company approved for oxadiargyl in China. Bayer CropScience was approved for 96% oxadiargyl technical before Anhui Kelihua.

Oxadiargyl is a protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase inhibitor used as a selective herbicide with long-last effect and low toxicity. It is active mainly pre-emergence and is not absorbed by the plant. Its efficacy is not dependent on soil texture and type. The herbicide is commonly used to control broad-leaved weeds including Amaranthus, Bidens, Chenopodium and grasses like Echinochloa, Leptochloa, Brachiaria in rice, sunflower and vegetables.

Oxadiargyl has a similar structural with oxadiazon and the two are used in similar markets. The major markets of Oxadiargyl are East Asia and Latin America, particularly in developing countries like China and India. Oxadiargyl was first introduced in Latin America in 1996, and in Japan as Fenax for turf management in 2002. Oxadiargyl was introduced in a mixture with aclonifen in France as Carioca in 2004 for sunflower. Approved for Annex 1 in EU in 2003, the registration of oxadiargyl now extended to 31, July 2016. Another mixture of oxadiargyl and aclonifen Opalo was introduced in Spain in 2009, for the use of tomato, tobacco, garlic, onion, and artichokes. The product is now in Bayer portfolio.
