Asia, Australasia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East: Biopesticides Market 2013” shows that the combined Asian, Asian, Australasian, Latin American, Africa and Middle Eastern markets for biopesticides are estimated approximately at $1.3b at the user level. This follows a decade of growth at a CAGR of 18%. Latin America has seen the strongest growth, with a CAGR of 22%, with Asia & Australasia at 18% and Africa and the Middle East at 12%. All the indicators suggest that there will be continued growth through 2013 and on to 2020.
Biochemical biopesticides make up 38% of all biopesticide sales outside Europe and North America, although there is considerable regional variation. In Latin America, microbials constitute 41% of sales, with most production and sales of biopesticides being undertaken by local facilities.
Across all regions, products based on Bacillus thuringiensis have lost market share to other microbials and chemical pesticides, but potential is noted in the underdeveloped markets of South-East Asia. The report shows substantial increases in the use of fungal biopesticides and beneficial insects in a variety of applications, particularly in Brazil and in China/Indo-China.
