Monsanto officials broke ground Tuesday their St. Louis-area research center in Chesterfield, Missouri for a planned $400 Million expansion.
Governor Jay Nixon joined Monsanto for the event, saying the expansion will further Missouri’s growth in biotechnology leadership. Monsanto, based in St. Louis, says it will add a new state-of-the-art research building, three-dozen new greenhouses and 250 more laboratories over the next three years. The biotech ag company says it’ll add 675 more employees and the construction is expected to create some 700 jobs.
Construction and renovation at Monsanto’s Chesterfield Village Research Center are expected to begin next August.
