The Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange announced they expect an increase of at least a 2.5% year-on-year of the oilseed planting area. The projection made by specialists means there is a possibility of having an area of 20.2 million hectares covered with soybean in this season, “which would represent a new national record in terms of the area assigned to this crop.”
Few weeks before soybean planting-related tasks start, technical studies mention the possibility of “continuing concentrating the area (oilseed) throughout the entire agricultural region.”
Said increase would be closely related with the drought that affected a significant part of the country’s agricultural area and stopped planting of corn. This would lead producers to opt for soybean, considering both economic and financial variables.
