China launched its first AVP biopesticide

China launched first AVP biopesticide – 6% oligosaccharide.chain protein wettable powder formulation, as developed by the research team of the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, headed by Researcher Qiu Dewen.

It is said that plant virus, as anobligate parasite, propagates inside plant body and consumes plant nutrition, which results in abnormal growth of plant or yellow-colored leave. Ordinary chemicals can hardly destroy the structure of viral particle, to which currently no ideal pesticide is effective while plant virus causes serious damages to crops.

The research team of the Institute of Plant Protection has done screening of large amount of weak pathogenicfungus according to the plant immunology and has obtained the alternaria tenuissima which can enhance plant immunity and separate purified high-active protein with heat stability. The research has figured out a high-efficient protein production process, added with amino-oligosaeeharin as synergistic factor to have formed a 6% amino-oligosaeeharin.chain protein wettable powder. Some 20 SCI research papers in this regard have been published on Chinese journals like the Plant, Cell and Environment,PLoS One, and etc; 1 national patent has been filed.

Qiu Dewen, the Chief Researcher said that protein biopesticide means biopesticide formulations which are originated from natural organism, being preventive against crop pest and up to the standard of registered pesticide. The 6% oligosaeeharin.chain protein wettable powder can induce plant’s inherent resistance, stimulate plant metabolization and immune system to enhance the plant resistance.

The field test of the formulation result reveals 65% effectiveness against rice stripe disease, 68% effectiveness against tomato yellow leaf curl virus and 75% effectiveness against tobacco mosaic virus, being very safe, low toxic and free of contamination to crops which is of a great benefit to the sustainable development of agriculture.
