“We have already seen an acceptable level of application of products in the thin crop campaign, slightly higher than that of last year, and we expect this tendency to continue with the thick crop”, said Carlos Capparelli, Chief Executive Officer of CIAFA (Chamber of Argentine Fertilizer and Agrochemical Industry).
It can be observed that there is certain delay in the fertilizer and agrochemical product demand for the spring sowing period. That temporary delay could be ascribed to the lack of humidity registered in several regions of the country. Regarding corn, there are two other reasons for the delays: a growing tendency to late sowing and the growers’ lack of definition due to discouraging prices.
Within the sector, there is concern about the import of finished agrochemical products, despite the great manufacturing capacity of Argentina. “We’re worried about the growing product import, mainly the generic ones, many of which are made in Argentina with better and proven quality standards, respecting the environment and fostering the domestic labor and rent”, added the executive of CIAFA.
