The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently announced the conclusions on the peer review of the initial risk assessments of insecticide flubendiamide and herbicide aminopyralid.
The risk assessments concluded that flubendiamide is low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macroorganisms, soil micro-organisms, non-target plants and sewage treatment organisms. A low risk to aquatic invertebrates was also concluded for the flubendiamide, however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite A10 (NNI-0001-3-OH-hydroxy-perfluoroalkyl) could not be finalised with the available data. The conclusions were reached on the basis of the evaluation of the representative uses of flubendiamide as an insecticide on tomatoes and bell pepper but only when grown in permanent glasshouse structures.
For the herbicide aminopyralid, the risk assessments concluded that it is high chronic risk to fish for 2/7 FOCUS surface water scenarios and for aquatic macrophytes in 1/7 FOCUS surface water scenarios. A low risk to all other areas of the ecotoxicological risk assessment. The conclusions were reached on the basis of the evaluation of the representative uses of aminopyralid as a herbicide on grassland as proposed by the applicant.
