Chinese agrochemical company Jiangyin Suli Chemistry has received the registration approval for its 20% fungicide flutolanil WP from Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA). The product is used as fungicide against rice sheath blight and turf brown blotch.
The SDHI fungicide flutolanil was first developed by Nihon Nohyaku with protective and curative activities. It is active in controlling Rhizoctonia solani and sheath blight in multiple crops including rice, cereals, potato, and is especially efficient in rice sheath blight control.
Flutolanil was first introduced by Nihon Nohyaku as Moncut for rice sheath blight and potato black scurf control in 1984. After that, flutolanil was licensed out for sale by a number of companies worldwide. Aventis developed it as a potato seed treatment, and then Bayer introduced the product in the USA as Prostar for turf and ornamental use after purchasing Aventis. Philagro obtained its marketing right in France, followed by Certis’ introduction of flutolanil in UK as Rhino. Gowan has its marketing right in the USA.
Sales of flutolanil product have long been kept steady with around $15 million in 2010. Flutolanil product has achieved EU re-registration.
As per China Pesticide Registration Watch, Nihon Nohyaku and Taizhou Bailly Chemical have already received Chinese registration for flutolanil technical. Suli Chemistry is the first Chinese company approved for flutolanil formula. Others are Nihon Nohyaku and Sipcam.
