The European Commission has proposed to approve Bayer CropScience’s fungicide fluopyram under the EU Plant protection regulation(1107/2009). It will be formally included in Annex I on Oct 1, 2013 and will expire on Sep 30, 2023.
The Commission requires that member states shall pay particular attention to the risk to birds and aquatic organisms .Conditions of use shall include risk mitigation measures, where appropriate.
In addition, the applicant is required to submit confirmatory information as regards: (1) the long-term risk to insectivorous birds; (2) the potential for causing endocrine disrupting effects in non-target vertebrates other than mammals. The information set out in point 1 will be submitted to the Commission, Member States and the Authority by 1 February 2016 and information in point 2 within two years after adoption of the corresponding OECD test guidelines on endocrine disruption.
