BASF discussed research regarding Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide during the American Phytopathological Society (APS) annual conference this week. Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide both contain the active ingredient fluxapyroxad, while Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide also contains pyraclostrobin. US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) registration for the products is expected in fall 2013. Both Lexicon Intrinsic and Xzemplar are expected to be available for sale spring 2014.
Tested in trials during 2008-2013, the research shows that Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide provide consistent, long-lasting protection against a broad range of turf diseases.
“The research indicates that the new active ingredient fluxapyroxad is absorbed quickly and evenly transported into turf leaves,” said Renee Keese, Ph.D., Biology R&D Project Leader, BASF. “The consistent uptake and delivery provide preventative and early curative disease control.”
The research presented at APS was conducted at many locations across the United States. Both university and private contract researchers conducted the trials, during which they recorded multiple disease ratings highlighting disease severity.
Xzemplar Fungicide Research Results
Trial results for Xzemplar fungicide, with the active ingredient fluxapyroxad, showed excellent control against dollar spot at all rates and timings. And when compared against BASF’s Emerald fungicide, Xzemplar fungicide provided faster dollar spot control in the first 14 days of the trials.
Lexicon Intrinsic Brand Fungicide Research Results
Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide trials demonstrated efficacious control of a variety of diseases, including brown patch, dollar spot, summer patch and fairy ring. In a trial conducted on SR7100 colonial bentgrass, Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide showed 0 percent Rhizoctonia infection (brown patch) after 21 days. When left untreated, the turf averaged 70.5 percent disease incidence.
In a trial conducted on “Baron” Tall Fescue, Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide showed 1.8 percent Magnaporthe infection (summer patch) after 21 days. When left untreated, the turf averaged 58.2 percent disease incidence.
Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide controls economically important diseases from all four major fungi classes: Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, Deuteromycetes and Oomycetes. Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide contains a 1:2 ratio of fluxapyroxad to pyraclostrobin.
