Recently China Agricultural University (CAU) announced a slow/controlled-release pesticide. According to the research team, the novel slow/controlled-release pesticide is coated by a thin layer of polymer material which avoids pesticide’s direct contact with the environment, reduces the loss of pesticide, enhances the utilization of pesticide and lowers the accumulated residue toxicity of pesticide.
After long year’s field test in many regions of China, the research team confirmed that the slow/controlled release pesticide series in granule and in microcapsule are rain-resistant, weathering-resistant, as well as release-time adjustable up to a period of 3 – 5 months.
The research team applied pesticide of different release time to crops like wheat, water melon and peach against various insect attacks, the results reveal that crops applied with conventional pesticide suffered attack again after 1 week while crops applied with slow/controlled release pesticide are not attacked in 3 – 4 weeks; the latter has a sustained release period which is 2 – 5 times over the former.
Compared with existing slow/controlled release pesticide in the market, the novel slow/controlled release pesticide is rain-resistant, weathering-resistant and has a widely adjustable release-time, which poses a long-lasting effect against the continuingly attacking pest and weed.
