China to promote a pesticide application safety plan for minor crops

Recently the Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) completed its preparation of the Vegetable & Special Crop Pesticide Application Safety Plan, which is reviewed by experts. The Plan aims to solve the problem of short supply of legal pesticide for minor crops in China.
 
Over recent years, China's vegetable production and growing area have continued to increase especially with the planting of greenhouse vegetables, insect damage has also become more serious. On the other hand due to short supply of legally registered pesticide for vegetables, there has been illegal use of pesticide by farmers which threatens the safety of farming product. It had become extremely urgent to fill the gap of short supply of pesticide for minor crops.
 
As pesticide enterprises are unwilling to register pesticide for minor crops, the Plan will involve government to take the lead in the promotion of supply of pesticide for minor crops, as well as to formulate incentives in respect of standardization of registration and procedure of registration to speed up the registration of pesticide for applications to vegetable and special crop against insect damage.
 
Coming up next the issue of government subsidy is going to be addressed; effective operating system, technical solution and supportive measures will be studied to enhance the quality of vegetable & special crop pesticide applications.
