The Pottente is the newest solution from IHARA for managing nematodes that attack sugar cane. The study of this technology began in 2007 and went on for the past 6 years. The company has earmarked several investments in research and development to create the Pottente. This search resulted in a highly effective, flexible and a product that will bring benefits such as higher longevity, lower dose per hectare, reducing the disposal of packaging materials, low risk of leaching and stability control at any time of planting, while minimizing losses productivity.

Every year, the nematodes become a serious problem in many cultures and with sugarcane this is no different. The attack on the plantations cause extensive damage and symptoms such as loss of roots quality and fibrous root reduction, factors that disable the plant to absorb water and nutrients in adequate amounts, making them stunted, chlorotic and unable to achieve adequate production levels. In addition, all varieties of sugarcane planted now, for commercial purposes, are susceptible or hypersensitive to nematodes.

"The alcohol sector gives Brazil a prominent position on the international scene and a unique bioenergy model. Therefore, IHARA has dedicated great efforts to solve nematodes problems in this sector. And also to meet this scenario, Pottente is a critical tool that aims to increase the efficiency of sugarcane,"says the IHARA’s Insecticides Manager, Michel Tomazella.

It is also important to note that the higher cost of sugarcane is implementation which is not expected to repeat before five years, being the most desirable for seven years, only then replant. This is another great contribution when handling the cane fields with Pottente.
