Syngenta France, a major player in the innovation for agriculture, and xFarm Technologies, the leading pan-European tech company for the digitalization of the agri-food sector, have announced their partnership to work on a geospatial AI project for crop detection in France. This partnership combines the expertise of Syngenta France, French subsidiary of a global leader, science-based agtech company, and the know-how of xFarm Technologies, the tech company that supports the work of more than 450,000 farms covering 7 million hectares in more than 100 countries worldwide through its Farm Management Information System (FMIS), the xFarm digital platform.
The project aims to further support farmers in France, where the use of some phytosanitary products is subject to strict conditions when non-target crops are grown nearby. That's why Syngenta’s French teams have developed Quali'Cible, a decision support system (DSS ) that gives farmers information on whether they can use a specific product in a given field. Quali'Cible's accuracy will be further improved and its use by farmers made even easier thanks to the partnership with xFarm Technologies, whose sophisticated Geospatial AI tools can detect non-target crops (such as sorghum, millet, buckwheat and chia) from satellite imagery. Thanks to this module, the tech company has already processed the entire agricultural area of France, around 25 million hectares.
According to Sami Yacoubi, Head of geospatial AI at xFarm Technologies, "Syngenta France is a top player in the innovation for agriculture, so we are very pleased to be their partner in this project that will provide French farmers with an even better DSS tool. Geospatial AI can be a game changer in agriculture, allowing us to provide farmers with increasingly sophisticated tools to make their work easier and help them implement better and more sustainable agronomic practices, both environmentally and economically".
François-Xavier Bauer, Stewardship and Sustainable Farming Lead for Syngenta France said, "Quali'Cible is part of a broader approach to supporting farmers in the proper application of crop protection products. We're proud that Quali'Cible can benefit from the latest artificial intelligence technologies thanks to xFarm Technologies , and that this is made easily accessible to all French farmers" .
Syngenta France and xFarm Technologies will keep working together to continuously improve Quali’cible, a critical tool for French farmers.
